THE SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANT
INSTALLATION GUIDE

This guide covers the installation procedure and configuration information for DIALOGIC, BICOM, NEWVOICE, and RHETOREX voice hardware for use with THE SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANT v1.5x software.

1. Install the I3 fax driver if you’re using fax on-demand. NOTE: IN ORDER TO EDIT YOUR AUTOEXEC.BAT PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING: Choose RUN from the program manager or if you are using Windows 95 click START and choose RUN. Type in SYSEDIT and click ok. Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT as indicated in the section below entitled Required Autoexec.Bat Entries. Remove the FAXPOP.EXE or FAXTSR.EXE command from your autoexec.bat file - you don’t need the FAXPOP or FAXTSR program ( only one of these will be in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file). If you’re using the SATISFAXTION 200 and don’t need the 2400 baud modem, don’t enable it. Also enable "Use EMS if available" for the I3 driver - this will minimize the memory required for the fax system.

2. If you’re using DIALOGIC ( other than the PRO-LINE 2-port Card ), BICOM, or RHETOREX voice card, install the "DIALOGIC, BICOM and RHETOREX Driver" disk from windows by choosing File|Run from the menu of the Windows 3.x program manager or choose Start|Run... from Windows 95. Then type A:SETUP or B:SETUP for the name of the program depending upon whether you’re installing from the A-drive or B-drive on your machine. It is highly recommended that you install the drivers in the default directory by selecting "Continue" when prompted.

3. Install the SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANT software PROGRAM DISK using the procedure in the prior step (step 2). Please insert the Borland Database Engine disk (BDE) when prompted. Again it is recommended that you install both the application files and database engine files in the default directory by selecting "Continue" when prompted.

4. Install the SOUND FILES software disk starting with sound files DISK 1 IF YOU ARE USING A DIALOGIC, BICOM OR RHETOREX VOICE CARD. Again it is recommended that you install the sound files in the default directory by selecting "Continue" when prompted. If you are using a NEWVOICE VOICE CARD then install the disk labeled SOUND FILES FOR NEWVOICE. Please follow the instructions as noted on the diskette.

5. NOTE: Utilities like DOUBLESPACE and STACKER will not save much disk space when used with voice processing software, and may cause your system to slow down excessively and cause errors. Although you may achieve acceptable performance with these utilities installed, we make no claim that you can use our programs if you have DOUBLESPACE, STACKER or a similar product loaded.

6. STARTING THE SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANT

a. Re-boot your machine and make sure that the voice card driver loads properly - you can bypass the Windows splash screens and watch the boards load in DOS by hitting the ESC key.

b. Choose The SBA’s icon from Program Manager (Windows 3.x) or your Start Menu (Windows 95/98)

*note* Please include a memory exclusion (below) in your config.sys if you do not already have one installed.

Be sure to have these two lines in the config.sys :

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=d000-d3ff

**Make sure that you attach the parallel lock (dongle) to your parallel port! This device contains the number of lines you are licensed to run. Without the dongle attached your software will only run a single line and will come up in demo mode. You can find the parallel lock in the software packet.

Installation notes:

*NOTE* the following instructions require some base knowledge of DOS and jumper settings, some users may need to consult their value added reseller (VAR) or voice board manufacturer for assistance.

FOR DIALOGIC OTHER THAN PRO-LINE, the THE SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANT driver installation disk puts the driver into your C:\SBA\DIALOGIC directory

FOR DIALOGIC PRO-LINE, install the board driver from the disk that is shipped with the card. In Windows 95 choose Start|Run… from the menu, type A:\INSTALL (or B:\INSTALL). Select a drive by choosing "C: a local fixed drive". Next choose "C:\DIALOGIC" as your directory. It is not necessary to review or print the release notes. The computer will then ask you if it can make changes to the autoexec.bat file. It is recommended that you select "Go ahead and modify". Choose "[C]" for your boot drive and accept the default path for the autoexec.bat by pressing <Enter>.

FOR NEWVOICE, Run the install program on the NewVoice floppy disk.

FOR BICOM, the THE SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANT driver installation disk puts the driver into your C:\SBA\BICOM directory

FOR RHETOREX, the THE SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANT driver installation disk puts the driver into your C:\SBA\RHETOREX directory.

The P parameter indicates which i/o port the board is using.

The ENTRYPOINT parameter should always be 62

The DUALPORT parameter adjusts where in upper memory the board appears as a 4K block of shared memory.

The ADPCM parameter adjusts the sampling rate of the voice card for all sounds. Use CONFIGUR.EXE to set this if you wish to change it.

IN ORDER TO EDIT YOUR AUTOEXEC.BAT PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

In Windows 3.x

C:>CD\
C:>EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT

  In Windows 95/98

REQUIRED AUTOEXEC.BAT ENTRIES

Multiple Board Installation:

FOR PRO-LINE:

SRB: Type=D4xD ADDR=D0000 TSLOT=1 DNLD=BCV.FWL

FOR DIALOGIC (other than ProLine):

SRB: Type=D4xD ADDR=D0000 TSLOT=1 DNLD=D4X.FWL

Note: If you are using a ProLine and another type of Dialogic board in conjunction, it is necessary for you to copy the D4X.FWL file from the C:\SBA\DIALOGIC directory to the C:\DIALOGIC\DATA directory so all of the firmware files are in the same directory. Also, be sure to add the SRB lines to the Dialogic.cfg file in the C:\DIALOGIC\CONFIG directory.

Note: Each board must be installed at a separate address; addresses should increase in increments of 2000. For example, the first board’s address is ADDR=D0000, the next board’s address is ADDR=D2000, the next board’s address is ADDR=D4000 and so on. You must also change the offset switch (SW1) on the boards to match this offset address. If you are adding more than 4 boards, please contact tech support for assistance.

Here is an example of a Dialogic.cfg file with a ProLine and a Dialog4 (or other Dialogic board):

SRB: Type=D4xD ADDR=D0000 TSLOT=1 DNLD=BCV.FWL
SRB: Type=D4xD ADDR=D2000 TSLOT=1 DNLD=D4X.FWL
